Junior Showmanship

Junior Showmanship offers children between the ages of 9 and under 18 years of age the opportunity to handle their dog and compete with other children at an AKC dog show.  They will learn about the world of dog shows and responsible dog ownership.

Juniors may also compete with their dogs in many more AKC events including Agility, Obedience and Rally, Field Trials, Tracking and Earthdog.

The long lasting friendships made and the values and skills learned while competing serve Juniors throughout their lives.

DCA Juniors Membership

The Dachshund Club of America offers a Junior Membership for Junior Handlers between the ages of 10 to 17.  It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Dachshunds from breed experts and meet other Juniors who own or handle Dachshunds too. Junior members receive the DCA Newsletter and do not pay dues. While Junior members may not vote or hold an office, upon turning 18, a Junior member may apply to convert to the appropriate adult  membership.

DCA offers a $300 stipend to eligible Juniors who qualify to exhibit a Dachshund at the Westminster KC or the AKC National Championship. To be eligible for the stipend, the Junior must be a current member of DCA, or have a parent or guardian who is a current member of DCA. The Junior  must also provide proof of exhibiting a Dachshund in Junior Showmanship at one or both shows.

Prospective Junior members should complete the DCA membership application and be sponsored by two DCA members in good standing. The membership application and sponsor forms are available in the Membership section of this website.
